It also adds Remote Kill and Admin Session extension, giving you more control over elevated sessions while they’re running.

Elsewhere, the client gets a more modern, native look, and System Settings pre-approval has been reworked to sit alongside your other App Control rules. There’s also macOS 27 support and a long list of fixes for app installs, in-app updaters, and Platform SSO.

Managed Sudo for Standard Users

The Terminal has long been an awkward spot for Mac privilege management. Developers and power users regularly need sudo for a handful of tools, and the usual answer has been making them local admins or granting an Admin Session for what’s often a single command.

Managed Sudo gives IT a narrower option. You pre-approve each command-line tool in App Control using its absolute path, such as /usr/sbin/installer, and standard users can then run that tool with sudo. Any sudo command that isn’t pre-approved is denied. Local administrators keep normal, native sudo behavior, and Admin Session users can use sudo freely except for any command paths you explicitly block.

Sudo activity is split by how much attention it needs:

Successful sudo commands are recorded in the audit log, including commands run during an Admin Session

Denied commands and explicit sudo-block hits are surfaced under Events

Tampering and bypass attempts are treated as higher-signal events and flagged in the same place

Rules are path-based in this release, with argument-level restrictions planned for a later one. Enforcement begins once the first rule reaches a Mac, so existing sudo access carries on as before until then. If a command matches both a pre-approval and a block, the pre-approval wins.

The older Allow sudo terminal commands setting is being gradually retired in favor of Managed Sudo. Run As Admin audits now also report unrelated sudo commands from the same user separately from the elevated application.

More Control Over Active Admin Sessions

Two session controls that arrived on Windows in version 9.0 now come to Mac, covering elevated sessions from both the user side and the IT side.

Admin Session extension lets users extend an active Admin Session so elevated work doesn’t get cut off mid-task. The Extend option appears in the session’s final minute and resets the countdown to the configured length. You control it from the portal, including how many extensions are allowed per session (up to five) and the length each extension resets the timer to. Every extension is logged.

Remote Kill lets authorized portal administrators terminate an active Run As Admin or Admin Session elevation remotely. Admin rights are revoked and affected elevated processes are force-closed. You can also apply an optional blackout period, during which new elevation attempts are blocked and logged. It’s designed for situations like suspected misuse, where elevated rights need to come down right away.

Users can also now request Remote Support during an active Admin Session. Session timer sync, Remote Support timeouts, and window placement have all been tidied up across Admin Session, Support Assist, and Remote Support.

System Settings Pre-Approval, Simplified

System Settings pre-approval now lives under App Control in the portal and works as a cleaner pre-approval. Each setting is a simple on or off. On means the pane is pre-approved, so standard users can make changes to it. Off means macOS behaves exactly as Apple intends: standard users can view the pane but can’t change it.

That makes it easy to leave native System Settings behavior untouched if that’s your preference. You can still open up specific panes, like Printing or Date & Time, where pre-approval saves a helpdesk ticket.

Admin Session users can use every pane except Users & Groups. Separately, a macOS 27 fix ensures that panes re-enabled in Mac Lockdown no longer stay disabled.

A Refreshed, More Native Interface

The macOS client now has a more modern, native look. Settings and the various modes (Admin Session, Remote Support, and others) got the most visible refresh, along with dialogs, request flows, and session timer screens. The Remote Support request form also now matches the layout used on other platforms.

A few visual fixes came along too:

Custom branding logos no longer overlap contact fields in authentication and Run As Admin prompts.

The About window now shows your Mac Endpoint Branding company name.

Close and minimize buttons display correctly on newer macOS versions.

Smoother App Installs and In-App Updates

Plenty of day-to-day friction on Mac comes from how modern apps install and update themselves. Version 6.0 covers more of those paths:

Electron apps such as Codex can be installed directly from a mounted DMG through the application-approval flow.

Postman and similar downloaded apps no longer hang when moved to Applications.

Squirrel and ShipIt-based updates are now handled through your app pre-approval policy.

Slack and Cloudflare WARP in-app updates reuse the app’s existing pre-approval without an extra prompt.

Electron app updates no longer leave Run As Admin audit events open until logout or reboot.

GarageBand additional content installs now route through approval.

App Control rules that combine a Team ID and a Bundle ID now apply only when both match.

A couple of unneeded prompts are gone as well. Printer administration commands using lpadmin no longer trigger an authorization prompt, and the unusable prompt that could appear during Wi-Fi selection in Setup Assistant has been fixed.

macOS 27 and Supported Versions

Version 6.0 supports macOS 15 (Sequoia), macOS 26 (Tahoe), and macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Support for macOS 14 (Sonoma) ends with this release, so check for any Sonoma Macs in your fleet before rolling out 6.0.

For macOS 27, the client now uses supported privacy permission checks, and the new Liquid Glass Setup Assistant pane can be skipped for first-login accounts the client creates. Several dialogs have also been updated to display correctly on macOS 27.

One change to plan for: from macOS 27, a PPPC profile can no longer grant the Accessibility permission, so a separate declarative device management (DDM) configuration is needed. The documentation includes updated privacy profile guidance to help with the transition.

Under the Hood

Identity handling got a lot of attention in this release. MFA/SSO email matching now falls back to the signed-in Platform SSO identity when connector-based email resolution isn’t available, so MFA works without an Entra ID Connector. Okta Platform SSO identity and group handling have improved too.

Support Assist audit logs now show the supported user’s full name and Platform SSO email. Support Assist attempts that use the active endpoint user’s own identity are blocked with clear guidance to use a different account.

General stability and reporting fixes:

Inventory runs faster on devices with many apps by reusing cached metadata for unchanged applications.

Firewall inventory reports correctly for devices using “Block all incoming connections” or managed firewall settings.

Elevation requests no longer get stuck on “Please wait” after long client uptime.

A temporary communication failure no longer ends an active Admin Session.

Device Owner and Logged On User capitalization is now consistent in API data.

Email validation supports apostrophes in addresses.

Closing the Cross-Platform Gap

Mac releases have been steadily catching up with Windows. Version 5.3 brought granular privilege control and app blocking, and 6.0 adds the same session controls Windows got in 9.0. It also adds a managed approach to the Mac command line, all handled from the same portal as the rest of your fleet.

Existing customers can grab 6.0 from the admin portal, and the full macOS release notes cover every change.
